Pet memorial ring engraving ideas: short words with personal meaning
A pet's name, a familiar nickname or a few words you used every day can make a meaningful ring engraving. You do not need to sum up a whole life in one sentence. Choose something that brings your pet to mind when you read it.
At Fur & Forever, engraving is an optional £20 extra on eligible rings, with up to 25 characters, including spaces and punctuation, in uppercase. Availability depends on the design, so check that your chosen ring offers engraving before deciding on a message. We do not offer engraving on pendants.
What our engraving looks like
Our engraving uses uppercase characters with a slightly italicised appearance.
The examples below are wording suggestions, not a preview of the finished lettering. They use letters, numbers and spaces so you can begin with a straightforward message.
Short pet memorial engraving ideas
These ideas leave room for a personal choice. Some speak directly about remembrance; others work just as well for a keepsake celebrating a pet who is still with you.
The character counts include spaces. If you add a name or change the wording, count the complete message again.
| Message | Characters |
|---|---|
| ALWAYS WITH ME | 14 |
| FOREVER MY FRIEND | 17 |
| MY LITTLE SHADOW | 16 |
| MY BEST FRIEND | 14 |
| PAWPRINTS ON MY HEART | 21 |
| LOVED BEYOND WORDS | 18 |
| OUR WALKS FOREVER | 17 |
| YOU WALK BESIDE ME | 18 |
| THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE | 22 |
| MY GOOD BOY | 11 |
| MY GOOD GIRL | 12 |
| FOREVER IN MY HEART | 19 |
If a phrase sounds too formal for your relationship, use the name you called across the garden or the nickname that always made your family smile. The words only need to feel right to you.
Adding a name or a meaningful date
A name on its own can be enough. You could also combine it with a short phrase, a birth date, an adoption date or years that matter to you. A date is entirely optional.
| Example | Characters |
|---|---|
| LUNA ALWAYS WITH ME | 19 |
| TEDDY MY LITTLE SHADOW | 22 |
| BELLA 2012 TO 2025 | 18 |
| CHARLIE 14 MAY 2014 | 19 |
These names and dates are examples, not customer engravings. Replacing a short name with a longer one changes the total. If your message is too long, try keeping the name and the most important few words rather than squeezing in every detail.
Hearts, double hearts and punctuation
You can choose a heart or a double heart, as well as a small selection of punctuation symbols.
If you would like a heart, double heart or punctuation in your message, contact us about the wording and symbol before ordering. We can confirm the available symbol and how to include it in your message. Please check a symbol-containing message with us rather than relying on an emoji's character count.
Choosing words for a gift
If the ring is a gift, check the recipient's preferred spelling, nickname and any date before choosing an engraving. A familiar name can be more personal than a phrase chosen on their behalf. When you are unsure, let them choose the words.
Our guide to choosing a thoughtful pet memorial gift covers the other decisions worth involving them in.

If you are still choosing the ring itself, our pet hair ring guide explains the choices to consider. You can also see the engraving option on our silver pet hair ring.
