Frequently asked questions

At Fur & Forever, we know that choosing memorial jewellery for a beloved pet is both a deeply personal and sometimes emotional decision. This page brings together answers to the questions we’re most often asked – from how to send your pet’s fur or ashes, to how we make each piece by hand in our UK studio, and what to expect from packaging and delivery.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, or you’d simply prefer to talk things through with a real person, you’re always welcome to contact us. We’re here to help, gently and honestly, at every step.

What is Fur & Forever jewellery?
We create handcrafted pet memorial jewellery in sterling silver, using your pet’s fur, ashes, whiskers or other tiny keepsakes. Each piece is made one order at a time in our UK studio so your companion is always the focus.
Where are you based and do you ship internationally?
We handcraft all pieces in our Sussex studio in the UK and ship across the UK and internationally. Delivery options and timescales are shown at checkout. International customers may be charged local customs or import fees by their country.
What materials do you use?
Most of our jewellery is made in solid sterling silver, with some designs available in solid gold. Your inclusions are set in high-quality jewellery resin, which we build and finish by hand for clarity, shine and long-term durability.
What is your packaging like? Is it eco-friendly?
Our packaging is both beautiful and eco-conscious. We use recycled and reclaimed materials, plantable wildflower seed paper, cotton offcut thank-you cards and a little piece of ethical Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate. It is all ready to give as a gift.
Is your packaging discreet? Will it mention ashes?
Yes. The outer packaging is plain and does not mention ashes, memorials or jewellery, so it is suitable for surprises and gifts. Inside, everything is carefully presented with our usual eco-friendly materials.
What can you include in my jewellery?
We can usually work with pet fur or hair, cremation ashes, whiskers and feathers. In some cases we can also include small fabric or ribbon, such as a collar, family tartan or similar keepsakes. Ask us if you are not sure something will work.
Can you make jewellery from a living pet, or is it only for memorials?
Both. Many people choose jewellery as a memorial after a loss, but we also regularly make pieces using fur from happy, healthy pets as a special gift or to mark an occasion.
Can you use human hair or ashes, or is it just pets?
We are very happy to work with both human and animal inclusions. We can use pet fur, pet ashes, human hair and human ashes, and we can sometimes create matching or companion pieces for different family members.
How much fur or ashes do you need?
We only need a small amount: usually a pinch of ashes or a few short clippings of fur. For a fuller look, sending enough fur to loosely cover the palm of your hand is ideal. Anything we do not use can be returned if you would like.
I only have a small amount of fur – is that OK?
Yes. We can work with a very small amount. If that is all you have, send what you are comfortable with and we will treat every strand with care. If you can spare a little extra, it usually helps us achieve a clearer, fuller effect.
Will my fur be clearly visible?
In most cases, yes. We arrange the fur by hand so it is visible in the design. Thicker top-coat hair usually shows more clearly than very fine undercoat, and cat fur generally shows very well. Sending a bit more fur can help us get a stronger result.
Can you match my pet’s markings or colours?
We will always do our best. If you have particular markings or patterns in mind, please mention this at checkout and send reference photos. We cannot promise an exact copy, but we will work carefully to capture their character and colouring.
Can you include more than one pet or person in a single piece?
Often, yes. We can usually combine inclusions from more than one pet or person in the same piece, either blended together or kept in distinct sections depending on the design. Just tell us what you would like when you order.
Can every piece be made with fur or ashes?
All of our core designs can be made with either fur or ashes, and many can also be made with other inclusions such as hair or feathers. Some pieces are dedicated fur designs; in others, fur or certain inclusions may carry a small extra charge.
Why is there an extra cost for using fur?
Working with fur is more time-consuming than working with ashes. We carefully prepare, place and layer the strands to get a clear, attractive pattern. The small additional cost reflects the extra time and steps involved for non fur-specific designs.
How does the order process work?
You order online and choose your design and size. Once your order is confirmed, we email simple instructions for sending a small amount of your inclusions to our Sussex studio. When they arrive, we handcraft your piece and then post it back to you.
How do I send my pet’s fur or ashes to you?
Place them in a small, well-sealed bag or container labelled with your name and order number, then into a padded envelope. We recommend a tracked or signed-for service. Losses are extremely rare, but we cannot accept responsibility for items lost in the post.
Is it safe to post ashes or fur to you?
Yes. With sensible packing and a reliable postal service, it is very safe and losses are extremely rare. We will email clear packing instructions after you order. Please note we are unable to accept liability if a parcel is delayed or lost in transit.
Do you send an ashes kit or return pack?
We do not send ashes kits or return packs. To keep things simple and reduce waste, we email you straightforward instructions for packaging and posting your inclusions directly to us once your order has been placed.
Can I order now and send the fur or ashes later?
Yes. You are welcome to place your order and send the inclusions when you are ready. We know this can be an emotional step, so there is no rush. Just follow the instructions in our email when you are ready to post them.
How long will my order take?
As a guide, most orders are completed within a few weeks of your inclusions arriving with us. Timings can vary slightly throughout the year, but we will always work as efficiently as we can without compromising quality.
Can you meet a specific deadline such as a birthday or anniversary?
Often, yes. If you have a particular date in mind, please let us know when you order. We can frequently prioritise time-sensitive pieces, especially for important dates, although it does depend on our studio schedule.
Can I change my order after I have placed it?
If you need to change something, please contact us as soon as possible. If we have not started making your piece, we can usually adjust details such as size, inclusion choice or wording. Once work has begun, major changes may require a new order.
What if my ring does not fit when it arrives?
We always recommend checking your size carefully before ordering. If it still does not fit, please get in touch. Resizing resin-set rings is limited, but we will talk through honest options and try to find a fair, practical solution.
Can you make something that is not on your website?
Sometimes. We can often tweak or adapt our existing designs, and in some cases we can discuss more bespoke ideas. Send us a message with what you have in mind and we will let you know what is and is not realistically possible.
Can you engrave my jewellery?
We currently offer engraving on the inside of many of our rings. At the moment we do not engrave necklaces or pendants. If you are unsure whether a particular ring can be engraved, ask us and we will advise what will work and how many characters will fit.
Do you have a shop or can I visit the studio?
We do not have a retail shop or showroom. All orders are placed online and made in our private UK studio. This helps us keep pricing lean and lets us focus our time on making your pieces rather than running a physical shop.
Can I send a piece as a gift directly to someone else?
Yes. You can have the jewellery sent directly to the recipient, and we can include a short handwritten note from you. Add your message at checkout or email it to us after ordering and we will include it in their parcel.
How can I check the status of my order or ask a question?
You can contact us using the details on our website or by replying to any email from us. Please include your name and order number so we can find your order quickly and give you an accurate update.
How do you look after my inclusions in the studio?
We handle every inclusion with great care and respect. Each parcel is clearly labelled as soon as it arrives, stored safely, and kept with your order throughout the process so there is no mixing or confusion between different pieces.
Will you return any unused ashes or fur?
Yes, if you would like us to. Just mention this when you send your inclusions. Any unused ashes or fur will be carefully labelled and returned to you along with your finished jewellery.
Is the jewellery waterproof and suitable for everyday wear?
Our pieces are designed to be worn and enjoyed, but we recommend treating them like fine jewellery. Avoid harsh chemicals, swimming pools, hot tubs and heavy impact, and store them safely when not in use to keep both metal and resin looking their best.
How do I care for my memorial jewellery?
Remove your jewellery before swimming, hot tubs, heavy exercise or cleaning. Keep it away from strong chemicals and prolonged direct sunlight. A soft, lint-free cloth is ideal for gently polishing the silver. Contact us if you are ever unsure.
Will the resin turn yellow?
We use high-quality, UV-stable resin and follow a careful curing process. All resins can change very slightly over many years, but if you avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged strong sunlight, your piece should stay clear and beautiful for a long time.
Do you offer promotions?
We do offer promotions occasionally, but they are quite rare. Our jewellery is handmade to order and our pricing is already very lean, so we do not have a lot of room for big discounts. When we do run an offer, our email subscribers hear about it first.
Do you offer volume discounts?
We do not have set volume discounts because every piece is handmade and our margins are already tight. For larger family or group orders of the same design, you are welcome to contact us and we will see what we can do on a case-by-case basis.
Can I return or change my order?
Because each piece is personalised and made with your own inclusions, we usually cannot accept returns or exchanges for a simple change of mind. If you need to change something, please contact us quickly so we can see what is possible.
What happens if there is a problem with my order?
If your jewellery arrives damaged, does not fit as expected, or is not quite right, please contact us as soon as you can with photos and details. We will review what has happened and work with you to repair, remake or adjust where appropriate.
