Frequently Asked Questions

At Fur & Forever, we know that choosing memorial jewellery for a beloved pet is both a deeply personal and sometimes emotional decision. This page brings together answers to the questions we’re most often asked – from how to send your pet’s fur or ashes, to how we make each piece by hand in our UK studio, and what to expect from packaging and delivery.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, or you’d simply prefer to talk things through with a real person, you’re always welcome to contact us. We’re here to help, gently and honestly, at every step.

What is Fur and Forever jewellery?

Fur & Forever creates handcrafted pet memorial jewellery in sterling silver, using your pet’s fur, ashes, whiskers or other tiny keepsakes. Each piece is made one order at a time in our UK studio, so your companion is always the focus. Our aim is to give you a discreet, beautiful way to keep them close – whether you’re grieving a loss or celebrating a much-loved friend.

How does the order process work?

Place your order online and choose the design and size you’d like. Once your order is confirmed, we’ll send simple instructions on how to post a small amount of your pet’s fur, ashes or other inclusion to our Sussex studio. When your keepsake arrives with us, we’ll create your jewellery by hand, keep you updated where possible, and then carefully package and return your finished piece along with any unused inclusions.

What can you include in my jewellery?

Most of our pieces are designed to hold a tiny amount of:

  • Pet fur or hair
  • Cremation ashes
  • Whiskers
  • Feathers

In some cases we can also work with small fabric or ribbon (such as a collar), family tartan, or other meaningful materials. If you’re unsure whether something will work, just get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s possible. We can also often combine keepsakes from more than one pet in a single piece.

Can you make jewellery from a living pet, or is it only for memorials?

Both. Many of our customers send a little fur from a happy, healthy pet as a special gift or to mark an occasion, while others choose a piece as a memorial after a loss. We can also work with human hair or ashes on request, for those who’d like a matching or companion piece.

How much fur or ashes do you need, and is it safe to send them?

We only need a very small amount – usually a small pinch of ashes, or a few short clippings of fur. If you'd like a very full look in your fur jewellery, it's best to send a good amount - enough to loosely cover the palm of your hand. We’ll give you clear packing and posting instructions to help everything arrive safely. Anything we don’t use is carefully labelled and returned to you with your finished order.

How long will my order take?

Because every piece is made by hand, timings can vary slightly throughout the year. As a guide, most orders are completed within a few weeks of your inclusions arriving with us. If you have a specific date in mind – for example a birthday, anniversary or Christmas – please let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

What materials do you use?

Our standard pieces are made in solid sterling silver, with gold options available on request for certain designs. Your pet’s fur or ashes are set within high-quality jewellery resin, which we build and finish by hand for clarity and shine. Every piece is created in small batches in our UK studio rather than mass-produced in a factory.

How do I care for my memorial jewellery?

Treat your piece like any special item of fine jewellery. We recommend removing it before swimming, hot tubs, heavy exercise, household cleaning or using strong chemicals, as these can dull both metal and resin over time. A soft, lint-free cloth is ideal for gently polishing the silver. If you ever have questions about caring for your specific piece, you’re always welcome to contact us.

What is your packaging like? Is it eco-friendly?

Yes. Our packaging is designed to feel special while being kind to the planet. We use recycled and reclaimed materials wherever possible, with packing slips and paper that can be planted to grow wildflowers. Our thank-you cards are made from cotton offcuts that would otherwise go to waste, and we include a small piece of ethical Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate in each order. It’s all beautifully presented and ready to give as a gift.

Can I return or change my order?

Because our jewellery is personalised and made to order with your own inclusions, we’re usually unable to accept returns or exchanges if you simply change your mind. However, if there’s ever a problem with your piece, or it arrives damaged or not as expected, please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll always do our best to put things right and make sure you’re happy with your keepsake.
